Two high-ranking officials from Argentina's Central Bank have filed a motion to nullify searches, challenging the legality of key evidence in the 'blue dollar' scheme and alleged state collusion. The investigation continues.

New Twist in the 'Blue Dollar' Case: Officials Challenge Evidence

The main hypothesis suggests that the lack of oversight by the Central Bank (BCRA) was not negligence, but a service "adorned" (in the words of the repentant Smith) by the financiers.

In the audio recordings that are now being attempted to be nullified, Piccirillo and García discuss how Hauque allegedly extorted officials from the Central Bank to maintain the flow of currency, under the threat of revealing who the executives of the previous management were who were receiving kickbacks from these operations.

While the fate of the seized mobile phones and computers (key to proving political ties) is being resolved, the Central Bank keeps the internal summaries open against the five implicated individuals, who, despite the severity of the accusations, formally remain in their positions.

The proposals will be analyzed by Judge Sebastián Casanello and Prosecutor Franco Picardi starting next Monday, after the judicial holiday period ends.

The lawyers for Volcic and Fernández maintain that the file was born irregularly.

Buenos Aires, January 29 (NA) -- The case investigating the millionaire scheme of the "blue dollar" and the complicity in the Central Bank (BCRA) has added a new chapter, as two of the five accused officials, Diego Volcic (Chief Inspector) and María Valeria Fernández (Supervisor), have filed requests for nullity of the searches carried out in their homes, questioning the validity of the evidence that originated the file.

Through their defenses, the officials objected to the legitimacy of the testimony of Carlos "Lobo" Smith, the former police officer who testified as a repentant witness, and the veracity of the audios that expose the alleged state connivance.

To do this, they question that Smith is not directly linked to the financial maneuvers, but to the alleged "staging" of a cause for drugs and weapons against financier Francisco Hauque.

In addition, the defense casts doubt on the authenticity of the recording where Inspector García admits that "there were people entangled above". They argue that the integrity of the file has not been examined.

They also argue that the searches and seizure of personal devices were disproportionate measures based on "weak" clues.

The financiers' plot: Piccirillo, Hauque and Migueles

The justice system is trying to reconstruct how the trio of partners managed to pierce the exchange rate clamp in 2022 and 2023 to access dollars at the official price.
